SEVEN-POINT ACTIONABLE AGENDA ITEMS
We insist that NYSED and all Educational Systems:
-
Ensure the inclusion of Anti-Bias workshops, Anti-Racism training, and Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education practices for all teachers as part of attaining a NYS teaching certification.
-
Mandate the consistent and authentic integration of comprehensive Black history & societal contributions, civics, and social justice education across all disciplines within the K-12 Curriculum.
-
Require the consistent integration of experiential learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) throughout grades K-12 for all students.
-
Replace current mandated state assessments with multiple forms of performance-based assessments.
-
Integrate restorative practices for school safety, staff, and students as part of the daily culture of the school in order to build community and disrupt the School-to-Prison Pipeline.
-
Increase the hiring of Black teachers, support the development of Black faculty members, and improve leadership opportunities for Black educators.
-
Provide appropriate funding as per the Campaign for Fiscal Equity.
